RECIPIENTS
The course is designed for Port Pilots and Port Captain/Coastguard officers.
PREREQUISITE
The course can be attended by:
- All Port pilots who have successfully completed the RADAR NAVIGATION AND PLOTTING COURSE and the AUTOMATIC RADAR PLOTTING AIDS COURSE - A.R.P.A. (operational level)
- All Coast Guard officers and petty officers
DURATION
The course lasts 5 days, including final exams.
OBJECTIVE
This course has been set up to train operators to traffic control in the ports equipped with VTS, by means of a high tech colour screen simulator allowing an overview of the area and of the V.T.S. controlled targets.
The system features special instruments which record communications between V.T.S. work stations, vessels and connected ARPA pointers.
The course widely illustrates AIS and LRIT systems, highlighting pros and cons and possible applications in the field of navigation safety.
A specific seminar on SMCP(Standard Marine Communications and Phrases), adopted by IMO on 29/11/2001 - Res. A.918(22) is held during the course.
CERTIFICATE
The relevant certificate is issued after successful completion of final exams.
GENERAL INFORMATION
